Launched in May 2009 Shalom Girl’s Home is one project that is particularly close to the hearts of Ps Eliah and Jit. Shalom is not an orphanage or a rescue home for girls caught up in the sex industry but a loving family for seven young ladies deemed, At Risk Youth or Children. With limited budget, the Janees supply accommodation, food, toiletries, pocket money, transport, education and uniforms for their girls. On a monthly basis they endeavor to meet all these needs, teach English and are prayerful about their plans to introduce computer classes as finances permit.
Narwat (fourteen) and Daranee (seven) are the latest girls to come and live with the Janees. Their story is typical of all the Shalom girls. Half sisters, their mother recently re-married and went to live with her new husband leaving the girls in the care of their 25 year old drug addicted brother. With nothing more than a bamboo screen to separate them from unwanted visitors, the sisters lived in constant fear due to the continual flow of his male friends through their house. It was not a difficult decision for the Junees when asked if the girls could live with them.
